How to Prepare Your Home for Santa’s Visit – A Magical Checklist

The countdown to Christmas is on, and that means one very special guest is getting ready for his annual visit—Santa Claus! To make sure your home is Santa-ready, we’ve put together a magical checklist for kids and adults alike.

  1. Leave Room for Rudolph and Friends

Santa’s reindeer work hard pulling the sleigh, so why not leave a treat for them? You can make reindeer food by mixing oats and glitter (eco-friendly glitter or coloured sugar works best so it’s safe for wildlife!). Sprinkle it in the garden or on the driveway so they have a snack while Santa delivers your presents.

  1. Create the Perfect Landing Spot

Santa’s sleigh needs a clear path! Check your roof or yard for anything that might get in the way of his landing. While we’re imagining his magical entrance, it’s also a great time to check your gutters for leaves—it’s like a two-for-one festive clean-up!

  1. Tidy Up Santa’s Route

Santa’s got a big job to do, and the last thing he wants is to trip over a toy truck or step on a stray Lego! Make sure hallways, living rooms, and doorways are clutter-free. It’s also a great excuse for a Christmas Eve family clean-up!

  1. Decorate the Magic Path

Make Santa feel extra special by creating a pathway of fairy lights or candles (battery-operated for safety) to guide him to the tree. You could even add a welcome note or a drawing from the kids—Santa loves thoughtful touches!

  1. Don’t Forget Snacks for Santa

The big man works up quite an appetite delivering presents all night. A plate of biscuits and a glass of milk are classics, but feel free to get creative! Maybe a lamington or a slice of pavlova—Santa loves trying Aussie treats!

  1. Check the Chimney (or Door)

If you don’t have a chimney, don’t worry—Santa is great at finding a way in! Make sure to do your normal lockup routine before you go to bed.

  1. Set the Mood with Christmas Spirit

Santa loves homes filled with the Christmas spirit. Sing carols, watch a festive movie, or read a Christmas story as a family on Christmas Eve. The warmth and joy of the season are what Santa loves most.

  1. A Thank You for Santa

Santa appreciates a little thank-you note. Kids can write a quick message or draw a picture to leave with the snacks. He’ll be so touched by the gesture!

By following these steps, your home will be perfectly prepped for Santa’s visit. Most importantly, don’t forget to go to bed early—Santa only arrives once everyone’s fast asleep. Merry Christmas and happy prepping!
